  • Royal Hawaiian

Mike & Mercedes in front of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel
  • Waiting in our room was...

Some delicious banana bread and pink champagne
  • Mmm... Pink bubbly Champagne...

The pink champange actually tasted great! Mercedes and I drank it while sitting on our lanai (balcony). Perfect after a long day of sitting on airplanes
  • Royal Hawaiian View

Here's part of the view from our lanai, at the Royal Hawaiian
  • Royal Hawaiian Walkway

This is just one of the many cute little secluded areas one could find on the Royal Hawaiian grounds
  • Royal Hawaiian's Little Friend

From time to time, as we walked around the grounds of the Royal Hawaiian, we'd bump into this little guy, or one of his family members... Friendly, but awfully shy, it was hard to grab a photo with him...
  • Luau Entertainment

At the Polynesian Cultural Center, the band plays local music as we soaked up the show

  • Hula Dancer

A life size version of the little girl some people have sitting on their dashboard
  • Local Band

Just a local band that played at the Royal Hawaiian. Great local sounds - both current and more traditional
  • Luau Pig

No Luau is complete without the roasted pig, pulled from the ground
  • Mercedes with the Roast Pig

We talked to the chef, and next thing you know we were taking pictures with the pig

  • Hot, hot, hot

By far the best fire knife dance to be seen on Oahu is at the Polynesian Cultural Center (and we saw several shows)

    Battleship
  • Pearl Harbor

Life continues, beauty blooms where there was once only devastation
  • Mike driving to Oahu's North Shore

Driving the Ford Escape with the A/C on full, sunroof opened and the music cranked
  • Giovanni's Shrimp Truck

Giovanni's Shrimp Truck is said to be the best shrimp truck to be found along the North Shore... I dunno about you, but buying Shrimp out the back of a truck just doesn't sit well ;)
  • North Shore Burger Joint

Kua'Aina is supposed to make the best burger on the island of Oahu... I don't know if that's true, or not, but they were REALLY good!
  • Palm Trees

Everywhere we went on Oahu, there were sure to be palm trees. Surprisingly, it was difficult to find them on the island of Maui...

  • Palm Trees and... Pines?

Surprisingly, it was difficult to find palm trees on the island of Maui... Once we got the the south east side (near Hana), we saw more. Odly enough, Hawaii also has their own version of the pine tree
  • How do I get down?

This crazy little guy climbed a 30-35 ft palm tree like it was nothing...
  • Coffee Beans

In the right places of the islands, cofee grows almost as wild as weeds do here
  • Fan Tree

I have no clue what this tree is called, but this is the tree's natural formation - in a fan
  • Hawaiian Plumeria

Hawaii's Plumeria, the state flower, can be found everywhere, on all the islands. The grow in several different colours. Mercedes and I brought back a plumaria plant, to grow (yes we declred it going through agriculture and customs).
  • Pretty Flower

Again, no clue what this is, but thought it looked perty ;)

Hawaiian sunsets are among some of the most beautiful I have ever seen

  • Taro Field

One of the many fields on the islands where taro is grown. Taro is similar to a potato, only far less tasty... For example, if you are ever offered poi, say

  • Maui Cabin Rainbow

The only rain we saw the whole trip was just the last few hours on Maui (including our return drive olong the winding, narrow Road to Hana). While packing, we were greated in the morning by this rainbow
  • Wild Dolphins

15-20 wild Spinner dolpihns were swimming within feet of the boat, as Mercedes and I went off to snorkel just outside of Ko Olina
  • Wild Dolphins

Several of them were playful, and would swim under the boat and pop up on the other side...
  • Wild dolphin jumping out of the water

Guess we know now why they're called spinner dolphins - this adolecent dolphin was only about 3-4 feet long, but still managed to get 6+feet in the air...
  • Off Roading

Special thanks to Alamo - I promise, I never took the rental Jeep offroad
  • Dirty Jeep

I think I got a little dirt on the Jeep - Wait a minute... I know how I can clean it off...
  • Mike's Car Wash

A little dirt is nothing the ocean can't wash off.
  • Mercedes Lei'd

Everywhere we went, we kept getting lei'd ;)
  • Mike Lei'd

  • Feeding the ducks

What trip to any American state would be complete without a stop along the way to feed the ducks?
  • Mike at Lahaina

Lahaina is a beautiful little town on the north west shore of Maui. Lots of shopping, and easy for a tourist to spend far too much... Ehem - Mercedes ;)

  • Lahaina Hermit Crab

Look closely, and you'll see the little guy running along to beach. Fast little guys!
  • Mike & Mercedes on the Road to Hana

Along the road to Hana, there were several places to pull off and take pictures of the view, or yourselves :D

  • Mercedes gets swept away

This was at a black sand beach (the sand is from the eroded black volcanic rock). See that wave coming in just behind Mercedes? Well, she didn't! It literally swept her feet right out of her flipflops! I had to race into the water after then, and had soggy Nike's for the rest fo the day...
  • Sinking Ship

While in Lahaina, we happened to notice this ship, that doesn't look like it's doing too well...
  • Mike at the Ocean

Just a neat looking little island int he background (on the east side of Oahu, about 1-hr away from Honolulu)
  • Who turned off the tap?

I made Mercedes come along a 3/4 mile hike to se these waterfalls, only to find that the water had run dry :( On the upside, Mercedes was eaten alive by mosquitos... That'll teach her to wear fruit smelling stuff while out of the city!
  • Hawaiian Waterfalls

The islands are littered with waterfalls - particularly on Maui, along the Road to Hana (where many of our waterfalls photos were taken)
